Eric Knustrom’s Bio

Lead Education Attorney

Eric serves as Lead Education Attorney for the Texas Education Alliance, bringing over two decades of legal experience to the field. His expertise spans from litigation to the art of legislative drafting, and he currently employs his legal acumen to shape the public policy landscape. Eric is a seasoned professional in legislative drafting and research, collaborating with legislators, stakeholders, and the legislative council to craft impactful legislation that translates policy into practical action.

Eric's legal journey began with him providing instruction in legal research at the University of Texas School of Law and St. Mary's School of Law for LexisNexis. Over time, he assumed the responsibility of overseeing more than 32 law schools in the Northeastern United States for LexisNexis. Following his tenure with LexisNexis, Eric's legal practice shifted toward general commercial litigation and eDiscovery, focusing on large-scale litigation matters before he found his calling in legislative practice. His current legal practice revolves around advising clients on their lobbying, ethics, and government affairs requirements. Eric represents non-profit associations, commercial interests, and individuals before the Texas Legislature and state agencies, offering legal guidance on matters related to compliance and the implementation of bills.

Eric's roots trace back to Clifton, Texas, in the heart of Central Texas. He attended Sam Houston State University on a debate scholarship and earned a Bachelor of Arts in Political Science and Speech Communications. Following his undergraduate studies, he pursued a legal education at the University of Texas School of Law, obtaining his license to practice law in Texas in 2001.

Nestled just beyond Austin, Eric calls Dripping Springs home, sharing it with his wife, Lyne, and their son, Barrett. When he's not navigating the halls of the Capitol, Eric enthusiastically channels his energy into two distinct passions: championing the cause of homeless pets and embracing the art of golf, albeit with a penchant for less-than-stellar performances.
